On A Journey
I moved out to the Yukon River between Eagle and Circle and spent the first winter on Washington Creek. There I built the roof of our six-sided log cabin and dug out the floor with an adz while I was five months to eight and a half months pregnant with my second child, Rae Mist. She was birthed on Washington Creek as had been Willow (girl at right) earlier that year. Here is Willow with her mother Barb and her brother Wakan. The story of 'On a Journey' goes like this. Barb and her partner Errol were on the banks of Washington Creek one summer. They happened to notice two mated geese fly over and then a speck that slowly grew as it fell to the Earth. It was a feather heading in their direction. Gently it took its time floating towards them both. It finally landed on the creek before them. Errol got up and headed to the canoe to retrieve it. But Barb said, "No, leave it, it's on a journey." Click on Art To View Larger Image
